Packaging

10 mL vial

Compounds

Each milliliter contains 4.2 mg of buserelin acetate, equivalent to 8 mg of acetate.

Mechanism of the Effect

Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) is secreted by the hypothalamus and transported to the pituitary gland via the portal venous circulation. In the anterior pituitary, GnRH stimulates the increased secretion of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH), which promote corpus luteum formation in females and spermatogenesis in males. The released LH and FSH lead to rapid follicular growth, maturation, and subsequent ovulation.

Use case

Cattle:

Increased fertility rate (at the time of insemination)

Ovarian cysts (follicular)

Ovulation disorders in dairy cows

Anestrus

Estrus synchronization using prostaglandins and control of ovulation timing

Mare:

Anestrus

Increased fertility rate

Ovulation disorders

Precise control of ovulation timing

Tools

The amount and how to use

Cattle: 2.5 – 5 mL, equivalent to 10–20 micrograms of buserelin, administered as a single intramuscular injection.

Mare: 5 – 10 mL, equivalent to 20–40 micrograms of buserelin, administered intramuscularly in one or two injections.

This drug can also be administered intravenously or subcutaneously; however, to avoid reactions and hypersensitivity in the animal, intramuscular injection is generally recommended.

Caution

Use only under the direction and supervision of a veterinarian.

Use with caution in animals with cardiac, hepatic, or renal problems.

During pregnancy or lactation, the drug should be used cautiously and under veterinary supervision.

Avoid injection into infected or inflamed sites.

Allergic or hypersensitivity reactions may occur in some animals; in such cases, discontinue use and monitor the animal.

Consult a veterinarian before concurrent use with other hormonal drugs or immunosuppressive agents.

Store the drug at 2 to 8°C and protect it from freezing.

Drug interference

Concurrent use with other hormonal drugs such as progesterone or estrogens may alter the effect of buserelin.
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can reduce the body’s response to buserelin.
Immunosuppressive drugs may weaken the therapeutic effect of buserelin.
Concurrent use with other drugs affecting the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis should be done under veterinary supervision.

Maintenance conditions

Store at room temperature below 30°C, protected from light, and out of reach of children.
