Mechanism of the Effect
Colistin is an antibiotic from the polymyxin class.
Colistin inhibits oxidative metabolism and acts on the bacterial membrane by altering its permeability, leading to rapid bacterial death.
Unlike many antibiotics that are only effective during bacterial growth, colistin is effective in both the active and dormant phases of bacteria.
Resistance to colistin is rare, and colistin is not absorbed from the intestines following oral administration.

Use case
Mega Coli is used for the prevention and treatment of intestinal infections caused by Escherichia coli, Salmonella, and other infections resulting from bacteria sensitive to colistin in poultry and livestock.

The amount and how to use
Calves and lambs:
100,000 IU of colistin per kilogram of live weight for 3 to 5 consecutive days in drinking water or milk. This is equivalent to 0.25 mL of the medicine per 10 kg of live weight, administered daily for 3 to 5 consecutive days.
Poultry and turkeys:
75,000 IU of colistin per kilogram of live weight for 3 to 5 consecutive days in drinking water. This corresponds to 18.75 mL of the medicine per 1000 kg of flock weight daily for 3 to 5 consecutive days, which equals 125 mL per 1000 liters of drinking water.
Note:
– The treatment duration should be limited to the minimum necessary time.
– Medicated water should be consumed within 24 hours; any leftovers must be discarded.
– Medicated milk should be used within 3 hours.
– If the medicine is administered orally directly, the daily dose should be divided into two portions.
– Before administering the medicine orally to the animal, it should be diluted with twice its volume of water.

Caution
Do not use in horses (especially foals) due to the risk of severe colitis.
Use is prohibited in lactating animals, as the milk will not be suitable for human consumption.
Avoid concurrent use with cations and quaternary ammonium compounds.
Do not use in animals sensitive or resistant to colistin.
Use only for a limited duration and under veterinary supervision.

Drug interference
Concurrent administration with cations and quaternary ammonium compounds causes interactions.

Maintenance conditions
Store in a dry place, at a temperature of 15 to 30°C, away from direct sunlight, and in tightly closed containers.
