Compounds

Bioherbal is a 100% natural medication formulated from herbal products like garlic, garden thyme, lemon balm, and other medicinal plants. It's designed so that its various components enhance and strengthen each other's therapeutic effects.

Mechanism of the Effect

Bioherbal is a natural remedy for fish that targets various aspects of their health through its herbal ingredients.

Antimicrobial and Disinfectant Action

Certain herbal components in Bioherbal, like thyme, which contains thymol and carvacrol, are added for their antimicrobial and disinfectant properties. When Bioherbal is introduced into fish rearing water, these plant materials first disinfect the water. They also reduce saprophytic (opportunistic) microbes on the fish’s body surface and gills, shifting the microbial population towards beneficial microbes. After consumption by the fish, these compounds are absorbed and target infectious microbes within the fish’s body, leading to their destruction.

Improved Gut Microbiota and Appetite

The enhanced microbial composition in the gut, along with improved appetite and nutrition, is linked to several factors, including the balance of gut microbes. Ingredients in Bioherbal for aquatic animals, such as thyme and peppermint, can directly boost appetite and modify the gut’s microbial makeup. They effectively reduce or eliminate infectious microbial populations while increasing beneficial microbes that aid in digestion and the production of essential nutrients for the fish.

Neurological Effects and Enhanced Feeding

Some of Bioherbal’s active herbal ingredients, like carvacrol and menthol, have known neurological effects. These compounds can stimulate specific receptors in neurons, which not only calms the fish and reduces stress but also increases appetite by stimulating the parasympathetic pathway. This stimulation sends excitatory signals via parasympathetic nerves to the ventromedial hypothalamus (VMH), leading to increased appetite and improved food intake.

Furthermore, the stimulation of nerve receptors in the gastrointestinal tract’s mucosa by these herbal stimulants triggers the secretion of a special neuropeptide called Neuropeptide Y. This signal travels through the bloodstream to the ventromedial hypothalamus, stimulating it to further increase appetite and food consumption.

Prebiotic-like Effects and Nutrient Absorption

Additionally, phytochemicals in Bioherbal, such as carvacrol and thymol, are recognized as potent, natural antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral agents. They suppress various microbes and causes of intestinal enteritis in fish without affecting beneficial bacteria or normal body cells. By reducing local inflammation and creating favorable conditions for beneficial bacterial growth, these compounds promote the proliferation of these bacteria in the intestines, effectively acting as prebiotics.

The combined effect of these conditions leads to reduced consumption of beneficial nutrients by infectious microbes. Conversely, beneficial microbes produce more beneficial nutrients. This results in less toxic material produced in the gut, more nutrients reaching the fish, and improved nutrient absorption and feeding efficiency due to reduced intestinal mucosal inflammation. It also prevents damage to intestinal villi, promotes villi elongation and crypt depth, and increases enzyme secretion and nutrient absorption rates.
