Compounds

Here's the information about the product's composition and the resulting isotonic solution, translated into English:

Each 100 grams of this product contains:

Sodium Chloride: 4.468 grams

Potassium Chloride: 2.224 grams

Anhydrous Sodium Bicarbonate: 13.344 grams

Glycine: 4.45 grams

When 50 grams of this product are dissolved in one liter of water, the resulting oral isotonic solution contains the following compounds:

Sodium: 120 mmol/L

Potassium: 15 mmol/L

Chloride: 55 mmol/L

Glycine: 30 mmol/L

Bicarbonate: 80 mmol/L (Total alkali expressed as bicarbonate)

Mechanism of the Effect

The physiological basis of oral rehydration solutions (ORS) is the simultaneous transport of sodium, glucose, galactose, glycine, or other small organic molecules. Water absorption in the intestine is a passive process that occurs as a result of active sodium absorption.

Studies in animals show that maximum sodium absorption, and consequently water absorption, happens when the ratio of organic molecules to sodium is between 1:1 and 2:1. Oral rehydration solutions should also contain potassium, chloride, and alkalinizing agents like bicarbonate or bicarbonate precursors (such as citrate, etc.) to compensate for deficits caused by diarrhea. Bicarbonate and citrate also enhance the absorption of water and sodium.

Use case

Hydrate Plus Royan® powder solution is prescribed to correct dehydration, electrolyte loss, and metabolic acidosis, especially when these disturbances occur after diarrhea.

The amount and how to use

This product should only be administered as an oral solution.

To prepare the solution, dissolve 100 grams of Hydrate Plus Royan® powder in 2 liters of lukewarm water (37 degrees Celsius).

The solution should be prepared immediately before feeding. If stored in the refrigerator (2 to 8 degrees Celsius), warm it to 37 degrees Celsius before administration.

Use clean water and utensils when preparing the solution.

Dosage Instructions:

Calves with Diarrhea:

Treatment should begin immediately upon noticing diarrhea. Stop feeding milk or milk replacers. Administer 2 to 3 liters of the prepared Hydrate Plus Royan® solution twice daily for 2 days, depending on the calf’s size and the severity of the diarrhea.

For the next 2 days, feed 1 to 1.5 liters of the prepared Hydrate Plus Royan® solution along with an equal amount of milk or milk replacer. Normal feeding can then resume. In cases of severe diarrhea, the prepared Hydrate Plus Royan® solution can be given 3 to 4 times a day, and if needed, the solution can be administered via a stomach tube. Calves can be fed solely with this solution for a maximum of 4 days without adverse effects.

Purchased Calves:

As their first feeding upon arrival, give 2 liters of the prepared Hydrate Plus Royan® solution instead of milk or milk replacer. The second feeding should consist of 1 liter of this solution mixed with 1 liter of milk or milk replacer. After that, resume normal feeding.

Caution

If Hydrate Plus Royan® powder solution is prepared in a concentrated form and administered to the animal, the animal must have access to drinking water.

In acute cases of dehydration accompanied by shock, intravenous fluid therapy with an appropriate solution may be necessary.

Drug interference

Maintenance conditions

Store at 15-30 degrees Celsius.

The prepared Hydrate Plus Royan® solution should be kept in the refrigerator (2 to 8 degrees Celsius) and discarded after 24 hours if unused.
