This drug belongs to the tetracycline group and is a bacteriostatic antibacterial agent effective against a wide range of aerobic and anaerobic gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, as well as chlamydiae, mycoplasmas, rickettsiae, and some protozoa. Chlortetracycline inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to bacterial ribosomes.

Drug interference
Avoid concurrent use with bactericidal antibiotics such as penicillins, cephalosporins, and others.
The use of cations like magnesium, manganese, iron, and aluminum with tetracycline group antibiotics reduces their effectiveness due to chelate formation.
