Mechanism of the Effect
Colimycin is an antibiotic from the polymyxin class. Although the exact mechanism of action of polymyxins is not fully understood, it is notable that unlike other antibiotics that are only effective during bacterial growth, colimycin can eliminate microbial organisms in both the growth and stationary phases. Microorganisms sensitive to colimycin rarely develop resistance against it.
Use case
Colimycin® is used for the treatment of intestinal infections caused by Escherichia coli, Salmonella, and other gram-negative bacteria.
This antibiotic is not absorbed from the intestines, which results in high concentrations in the intestinal lumen and enhances its effectiveness.
Colimycin® can be used synergistically with many other antibiotics, including erythromycin, clindamycin, bacitracin, and sulfonamides.
The amount and how to use
Dissolve each 100-gram sachet in 500 liters of poultry drinking water. The treatment should continue for 5 to 7 consecutive days.
