Each gram of Neomycin 20% Rooyan powder contains 200 mg of neomycin (sulfate).
Mechanism of the Effect
Neomycin belongs to the aminoglycoside group and exerts its antibacterial effect by binding to the 30S subunit of bacterial ribosomes, disrupting the translation and synthesis of vital bacterial proteins.
This action results in bacterial death (bactericidal effect). Neomycin is primarily effective against Gram-negative and some Gram-positive bacteria.
Use case
Neomycin 20% has limited intestinal absorption, making it more effective against Gram-negative bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract.
Neomycin sulfate primarily acts against aerobic Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Klebsiella, Proteus, Salmonella, and some Gram-positive bacteria; however, it is not significantly effective against anaerobic bacteria.
This medication is prescribed for the treatment of bacterial gastrointestinal infections such as various types of enteritis and diarrhea in livestock and poultry.
