Mechanism of the Effect

Tilmicosin is a semi-synthetic, broad-spectrum, bactericidal antibiotic from the macrolide group, derived from tylosin. It acts by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, thereby inhibiting protein synthesis in bacteria.

After oral administration, tilmicosin is rapidly absorbed through drinking water and is transported from the bloodstream to tissues with low pH. This results in tilmicosin concentrations in the lungs and air sacs being 20 to 30 times higher than those in plasma.

Tilmicosin is eliminated slowly, with high concentrations (above 1 microgram) remaining in the lungs and air sacs for up to 5 days after the end of the treatment course.

Use case

It is used for the control and treatment of respiratory infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to tilmicosin, including Mycoplasma gallisepticum and Mycoplasma synoviae in poultry.

The amount and how to use

15–20 mg of tilmicosin per kilogram of live body weight daily for 3 days.
One 240 ml bottle of Tilmosin R in 800 liters of drinking water for 3 consecutive days (equivalent to 75 mg of tilmicosin per liter of drinking water).

Caution

This product is for veterinary use only. Keep out of reach of children.

When preparing the solution, always wear protective clothing, impermeable gloves, safety goggles, and a dust mask. In case of contact with eyes, rinse thoroughly with plenty of water.

Drug interference

The veterinary drug Tilcosin (Tylosin) interacts with ionophores such as monensin and salinomycin, which can cause severe cardiotoxicity. Concurrent use with bacteriostatic antibiotics (such as tetracyclines and chloramphenicol) may reduce its effectiveness. It should be used with caution alongside cardiac and anti-inflammatory medications.

Maintenance conditions

Store in a dry and cool place at a temperature between 10°C and 25°C, away from direct sunlight, and in the original tightly closed containers.

Shelf life: 2 years from the date of manufacture.
